    Description

For sale is a 1986 Univega Gran Rally (Ben Lawee designed) road bike in great overall condition.
This is a 59cm size frame (measured center of bottom bracket to top of seat tube), top tube measures 57.5mm center-to-center, and a standover of approximately 33 1/4" (with 28mm tires).
Full original Shimano 600 components, including 600 indexed shifter levers and 600 indexing SIS rear derailleur. Drivetrain consists of Shimano 600 170mm crank arms, with
52/42 chainrings and a 13-24 freewheel. Wheelset is original
Shimano 600 hubs laced to Araya hard anodized rims, and both wheels are true. Both
hubs were cleaned and repacked about 200 miles ago and are silky smooth.
Tires are Continental Grand Prix 5000 700c x 28mm with
approximately 3-400 miles on them. The GP5000's are really
    fantastic,
and the 28's are so much nicer than a 23mm or 25mm tire. You probably won't find a higher-rated road tire.
Upgraded cockpit consists of a Nitto Grand Randonneur handlebar, Nitto Technomic Deluxe stem with a 10cm extension, original Shimano 600 brake levers, and brand new Newbaum's cloth bar tape.
    The paint is
a stunning metallic coral color that really shines in the sunlight.
I took these pics on a sunny day in hopes that the beauty of the color would come through. There are some places that I've touched up with a mix of two different bottles of nail polish, and I think it comes pretty darn close to the original color; I'll include them with the sale.
This is really a great bike - with its lightweight triple-butted tubes, it feels very quick to accelerate and really responds well to your input. The only reason I'm selling it is because I'm getting older and I'm scaling down my fleet to bikes that are more comfort-oriented with less aggressive geometry and wider tires. But I'll definitely miss the zippiness and feeling of speed I get when I ride this bike. This is an excellent example of a top of the line 80's era bike made in Japan.
I'm also open to selling the the bike as a "rolling chassis" or other configuration. If you're interested in a different iteration other than the complete bike, please let me know in the Message box when you submit your offer.
    PLEASE NOTE:
the saddle and pedals are NOT included with the bike, but they're shown in the pics so you can see what it looks like as a complete bike. However, the Zefal pump IS included with the sale.
Packing and shipping will be an additional 5 anywhere in the continental US. I'll use either ShipBikes or BikeFlights, and it will be insured for the full amount of the purchase price. If you're outside the continental US, please contact me BEFORE paying in order to get a shipping quote (shipping bikes outside the continental US can be extremely expensive). I'll be packing the bike myself, since I've been rather unimpressed with most "professional" packing jobs done by bike shops in the past. I've shipped and received dozens of bikes and frames over the years, so I know how to pack a bike, and I know how NOT to pack a bike. I'll try and pack up the bike as quickly as possible, but proper bike packing takes time, so please allow up to a week (5 business days) for handling time from the date of purchase. Please feel free to ask any questions, I'm usually pretty good about responding quickly to any inquiries. Thanks for looking and have a great day!
