    Description

    Up for sale is a
large fossilized bone carving sculpture of two Aleut hunters in a baidarka (kayak) mounted on a chunk of
    fossilized
bone. The sculpture gives the impression that the two men in kayak are riding a wave on their hunt for food.
Featuring a two-hatch boat with a grab loop on the bow, two figures and a harpoon line float on the rear deck, all carved from
    fossilized
whale bone. The hunter in front has a harpoon raised in his left hand and holds a coil of line in the right hand. The man in the back holds a kayak paddle. Both men's heads, hats & gloves, the paddle blades and the harpoon tips are
    fossilized
ivory. The boat is mounted on an irregular shaped chunk of weathered
    fossilized
bone with two holes for the boat's metal rods to sit into. I don't know the artist but it's signed on the bottom of the kayak.
Sculpture measures about 17" long by 12" wide by 12" high and is very heavy.
