    Description

    Inuit wood carved effigy, from late 1700s -1800s. Believed to be used for ceremonial and spiritual purposes. Retains some of its original organic paint on face, head and chest. Receptacle on top of head for burning low heat materials for ceremonies. The piece contains wonderful wormed wood tracking, especially throughout the base. According to auction notes when purchased, this piece was obtained from an Inuit family who had owned it since the 1800's. Pre-auction estimate at time of purchase was 00. It is 15" tall x 5" at widest point.
