The Falcon San Remo was their top frame built with Reynolds 531 steel. This was the last of the chrome Nervex lug frames. Chrome fork, with chrome seat and chain stays. The dropouts are Campagnolo, the best made. This was the ultimate riding frameset of the time, handmade in England. It came my way, as I was the owner of Reliable Bicycles, a vintage bike shop, I owned for three decades, servicing most of the bicycles in downtown Cincinnati.
As a USCF racer for decades, I rode and understood the sport of cycling. When it came time to build a cross country bicycle, this was my choice. The San Remo uses Reynolds 531 ultralight steel tubing, with nimble handling, but a slightly longer wheelbase, as English frames preferred. I had the frame stripped, faced, and repainted to match my Volvo station wagon, which I used to go to races in my region. I have the Volvo touch up paint for the frame, included. Original face plate is mounted on the head tube.
I chose Campagnolo components throughout, but gave it a triple crankset with matching front and rear derailleurs. I used 8 speed ergo brake/shifters with Campagnolo cassette, 13/14/15/17/19/21/23/26 cogs with a 50/40/30 chainrings, with 170mm crankarms. I laced up the Campagnolo 32 spoke hubs with Omicron Campagnolo rims, using 15 gauge DT stainless steel spokes. The handlebars are Cinelli Eubios 42cm c-c, and the stem is an 85mm variable angle using the 4 bolt removable attachment, with cork handlebar tape. I preferred the Mathauser brake pads, as they were superior to Campagnolo, especially in the rain. The Continental 700 by 28mm tires are good, but I expect you might replace with tires of your choice. Pedals are not included, but there is an option to purchase after the auction. My Brooks seat has been removed, it took years to break in, and replaced with a Cinelli Unicanitor leather seat, appropriate for the period. The seatpost is the Campagnolo 2 bolt infinitely adjustable clamp for perfect seat saddle angle and fore aft position. I chose a Sugino 5mm allen seatpost clamp. I added two water bottle braze ons, one the seat tube and and another on the down tube.
The frameset paint is excellent, but not perfect, as this bike was ridden, not displayed. There is an a near invisible indentation on the top tube where the handlebar would have touched, but I chose not to fill in when I painted, to keep the frame original. You likely will not see it, I don't.
I marked this as local pickup.
I will box carefully and suggest you ship by BikeFlights at a cost of 60-150 dollars. Winning bid will decide how to ship, as the box is too large for USPO, and more expensive. We can settle this fee after the sale. I charge 55.00 for disassembly and packing in a bicycle box. I can ship to you, or your favorite bicycle shop.
This is a once in a lifetime frameset, which would cost more to duplicate than the price listed for the complete bicycle. I wish you well enjoying this classic bicycle. A Raleigh Reynolds 531 chrome Nervex matching fork with Blackburn low riders is available for purchase, but with a slightly lighter paint job, as it was found then painted later. Speedplay or Campagnolo period cleat pedals are available.
