The cap 4–10 (12) cm in diameter, fleshy, brittle, in mature mushrooms — uneven, with a wavy or lobed margin; often looks longitudinally striped. In young mushrooms, the cap is hemispherical with a wrapped edge, and later - convexly spread with a curved or even raised edge, less often - prostrate or slightly concave. In one joint there may be caps of different sizes and shapes. The peel on the cap is smooth (occasionally - with small flat dark scales in the center), wet and slightly sticky in wet weather. The color of the cap is off-white, gray or taupe, lighter on the edges; brightens with age; when pressed does not change.
The flesh of the cap is dense, elastic, fibrous, light or grayish-brown, with a weak floury (“rank”) smell and a weak but pleasant taste.
The plates are relatively frequent, thick, 0.5 cm wide, with smooth edges, slightly nibzhegayuschie or adherent prong, in maturity sometimes lag behind the legs; off-white or yellowish (darken on pressure).
Leg 3-8 (10) cm long and 0.5-2.5 cm in diameter, dense, solid, cylindrical or slightly swollen, often tuber-like thickened downwards; the plates are white, greyish-brown to the base. The surface of the leg is smooth, flaky powdery at the top; longitudinal pulp. In relation to the cap, the leg is sometimes eccentric. Often the legs of a group of lyophilums grow together with bases.
Spore powder is white. Spores 5–7 × 5–6 µm, smooth, broadly ellipsoidal, colorless, not amyloid.
