For sale is an original watercolor by Northwest Coast artist Ben Houstie titled "Seal".
In NWC culture, seal represents wealth and plenty. Traditionally, seals were an important resource providing food, oil, and waterproof hides .
Ben Houstie (1960-) b. Nov. 20 Bella Bella, British Columbia, Canada.  The area is representative of the Kwagiulth Nation, a tribe that inhabits the southern region of B.C.  Ben specializes in original paintings, limited edition prints, rattles, and jewelry.  In 1988, Bill apprenticed under Bill Reid, the father of Northwest Coast art of the 20th c., painting several drums of Bill`s design and twenty paddles or the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Ottawa.  Presently, Ben resides in Vancouver and continues to make original paintings and limited edition prints.
This picture is signed in pencil "Seal Waglisha B.C. 1986 Ben Houstie" with black initials HB
.
Measurements are 30X 20 inches on heavy deckle edge paper and in excellent good condition.
