    Description

For sale is sterling silver First Nations hand carved cuff style bangle bracelet. The bracelet is hand forged and has a lightly domed profile and polished finish.
The entire surface is hand carved by Northwest Coast artist William Cook in a traditional design of a bear, with a bear mask in the centre, followed by bear First Nations elements on the sides.
The carving shows fine detail and the bracelet is well made and finished. Historically, valuables such as bracelets from respected artists were gifts at potlatch ceremonies.
The bracelet is 7 ¼ inches in circumference including the opening of 1 ¼ inches; is 1 ¼ inches width; & weighs 52 grams.
Bear is one of the most prevalent figures in crest and shamanic art, & myths.
Bear is considered to be a close relation of humankind. As such, the bear is a link between the human & non-human animal realms, as as well as between the secular natural realm & the supernatural.
Their strength & fierceness symbolize guardian, protector and helping spirits of warriors.
William Cook (1974 - ) is from the Kwakwaka’wakw tribe in Alert Bay, BC on Vancouver Island.
William comes from a family of artists
and has worked with artists Patrick Seaweed, Henry Nelson, & Frances Dick in the tradition of the Kwakwaka’wakw style.
    William works primarily with jewelry.
