    Description

For sale is a  Northwest Coast mask carved by world renowned artist Wayne Alfred (1958-).
This outstanding cedar mask is adorned with  cedar bark hair, feathers, and paint.
The inscription of this mask reads "Qulos Nimpkish 90 Wayne Alfred."
Qulos is the younger brother of Thunderbird. He is very strong and has supernatural powers like Thunderbird but because he is smaller, Qulos does not have curly appendages on his head.  He is known to have given many sky spirit songs and dances to the Kwakwaka`wakw people.
Measurements of the mask is 15 inches long by 9 inches at the widest and in great condition.
Wayne is Kwakwaka`wakw (Namgis/ Nimpkish band)) from Alert Bay. He is one of the most prominent Northwest Coast artists.  Alfred has been carving since he was 19 and apprenticed under Henry Hunt, Charlie George, Doug Crammer and Beau Dick.  His works are featured in many exhibits and collections worldwide.
