Northwest Coast Signed Native Indian Hand Carved Wooden Eagle Totem Pole 27 1/2"

Description

This is a great hand carved totem pole found at a local estate. It is 27 1/2 inches tall and the wing span is 21 3/4 inched. The tag states it was made by Dominic Wakegijig. I was able to do some internet searches and found he was born in Wikwemikong and had a 2 month old son who died in 1921, so you might use that information to judge the age of this piece.
The wings are tacked on with small brad nails.
The wood does have an age split in the front which adds character and also assures that it is an older item from the wood drying process. The only totems I have ever come across were the small souvenir types, nothing ever this big, hand carved, and attributed to a native artist. This is an impressive piece of North American native folk art.
