    Description

    This mask, titled “Dying Warrior,” was carved by Val Stickings Duncan, of Kwagiulth heritage, in 1996. You can see most of this information carved into the back of the mask, in one of the last photos.
    I purchased this mask at Orca Art Gallery, Chicago, in 2001. It has been hanging untouched on a north-facing wall for twenty years.
    I can’t find much information on the artist online, but at least one of his pieces is held by the Heard Museum in Phoenix. His medium is listed as woodcarving and masks.
    Also, I don’t know what the wood is. It’s not written on the sales slip or on any other information I have. I’m guessing it’s cedar, but I just don’t know.
    The mask is about 11 inches high. With the hair, it’s about 18 inches in length. It’s about 7.5 inches wide, and about 7 inches deep.
    I will ship this via FedEx, and I’ll discuss with them the best way to package it. I don’t know if there’s a way to affix it to a board or something, so that the hair hangs straight down, and then protect the whole thing in some sort of wrap. I’m afraid that if I enclose this piece in a plastic bag and then bubble wrap it, the hair would get folded up inside the plastic bag: I don’t know if that would harm it in any way — which is why I want somebody with packing experience to do the job.
    So, I’m guessing at the size of the shipping box and the weight of the package. If I’ve overestimated and you are due a shipping credit, I will refund it to you the day of shipping.
