    About the Artist
    Ray Bereska
    was born in Vancouver, B.C., and after moving to the beautiful West Coast Vancouver Island, he developed his passion as a carver and learned from traditional master carvers while teaching high school at a First Nations high school as head teacher. He has carved continually for over 30 years and has expanded his carving objects to include animals and people in his own unique style and mixing in traditional designs creatively combining realism and traditional patterns.
    Almost all carvings by Ray use yellow cedar from the West Coast of British Columbia, Canada. This is the most popular wood used by traditional wood-carving masters. The trees grow straight and tall and resists decay, which provide a stable work of art that lasts generations.
    Ray’s carvings have sold locally and internationally. His art work was displayed in the Annual New York International Art Exhibit in 2000. He has also created custom designed carvings upon request.
