    Description

    This listing is for the Schwinn Klunker bicycle as shown. This bike is based on a 1981 Schwinn Sidewinder frame (ser #JR503438) that has been heavily modified , including removal/replacement of cable stops, adding cantilever brake studs and adding twin lateral bars. I also reshaped the dropouts and replaced brake and chainstsy bridges. There’s an NOS “ Wheel Goods Flyer” head badge . I added a 1980s BMX/Cruiser style fork and modified Schwinn truss rods to complete front end. The wheels are first generation Phil Wood with nice centers, laced to Ukai BMX anodized alloy rims with stainless spokes. The wheels are straight and stiff with no flat spots at dings. Note , rims are slightly different shades of gold, but are an original pair/set. Tires are Maxxis 26x2.35 and are great in dirt or on the street . The cranks are TA 177.5mm with TA 28/38/47 chainrings. The crankarms and sprockets as well as hardware are NOS but with slight stain/aging/patina. The pedals are Suntour XC ll BMX 9/16”. The brakes are Mafac/ACS long arm version with kool/stop pad inserts. Levers are Dia Compe large early mountain bike. The 18 speeds are controlled by Suntour power ratchet thumb shifters and aShimano front snd Shimano 600 rear derailleur. 6-speed Freewheel is Sachs with Sedis chain The seat is a nice Brooks Professional with no cracks at rivets and nice pliable leather ( not rock hard) . The seat post is Schwinn Exercycle and is extra strong and long, with height marked on side. This bike is suitable for riders 5’2”-6’3”, I built bike for taller riders who don’t fit a DX. This Frame is 21”x23” reach (54x58cm)Stem is forged Schwinn and another more upright stem will be included. The handlebars are period thick wall aluminum and measure27” wide with 2” rise. I modeled this whole bike on the 1977-8 Breezer of which 10 were made, making them unobtainable. The Schwinn Sidewinder has great geometry and is super durable, so I started with that. All brazing was done with durability in mind, and traditional Schwinn weak spots were filled with brass. Then the frame fork and truss rods were professionally powder coated with color and a semi-flat clear giving a very durable finish. It has plenty of gears and brakes for most anything. It’s pretty much unstoppable in sand and snow and handles nicely in trails. This machine has approximately 45 break in miles and performs wonderfully , smooth gears and tons of brakes. You can be sure of the built in quality and attention to detail in this (and any) bike from me. It will last a very long time and ride nicely the whole way. Payment to include 5 S+H in USA. Thanks
