The cap is 4–10 (12) cm in diameter, fleshy, with a wavy, lobed or fissured edge; in young mushrooms it is round-conical, convex, later - flat-prostrate, uneven, with a flat tubercle in the center. The edge of the cap of young mushrooms is wrapped, later it straightens, and in older specimens it can be curled upwards and cracked. The color of the cap is pale grayish or dark gray, often with an olive or purple tinge; in the center is darker; radial blackish filaments are noticeable on the cap. The surface of the cap is smooth, with age the cap often cracks; in wet weather - mucous and slightly adhesive (therefore, soil and plant residues easily adhere to it).
The flesh is whitish or grayish, often with a yellowish tinge (on a break), dense, fibrous in the stem and friable. Taste and smell weak, mealy.
Plates 0.5-1 cm wide, sparse, wide, slightly sinuous, adherent or loose; in young mushrooms - white, later greyish, with a yellowish tinge.
The stem is 4–10 (15) cm long and 1–2 cm thick, cylindrical, slightly thickened at the base, solid (becomes hollow over time), dense, smooth, longitudinally fibrous; white with a yellowish or grayish tinge at the bottom; in the upper part it is covered with a powdery coating. As a rule, a mushroom stem is deeply rooted and immersed in moss or leaf litter.
White spore powder, spores (5-6) × (3.5-5) μm, ovoid-ellipsoidal, smooth, colorless.
The aroma is pleasant, similar to the smell of fresh flour. In this connection, gray rowing cannot be confused with any other type of fungi.
Pulp: whitish color, under the skin, legs and caps pale yellowish. It has a slightly bitter taste and smell, reminiscent of fresh flour.
Spore powder: white. The spores are smooth, almost round.
Plates: white or grayish, almost free, wide, silky, not frequent, branched with flakes.
Edibility: average taste, suitable for food, consumed in salty form. The mushroom is almost unknown.
